Feelings from Friday
The Robotics session was fantastic! Have made a connection with presenter (Gareth from Otonga) and plan to take a group of 6 students to view his Robotics sessions in action (Week 10).
Making connections with teachers from other schools was a huge bonus (e.g. Lyn from Westbrook and Jemma from Otonga - Jemma presented the Black and Yellow Session).
Admiration for the Minister to speak with such confidence and clarity in the midst of challenging times.
First session wasn't useful (Excel) - thought it would be more 'creative' ways to use the program me rather than class lists. We discussed the challenges in presenting to a group on different points on the continuum (e.g. feedback from the workshop suggested some got a huge amount out of it and others felt they needed an 'advanced' session)
Deans "SMARTART" workshop absolutely 'blew her away' - fabulous, fabulous, fabulous! Resources, relevances, exciting (just couldn't say enough).
Speakers were both amazing (Marcus was outstanding - a real credit to organizers)
Iain: Blogging - Adding to 'Pages' (currently using Embed it in - fabulous examples!). We copied and pasting content from home page to Writing and Curiousity pages. Striving towards student ownership - talked about saving work to go on to blog into a 'blog' folder on the desktop of the classroom computer so that 'johnny and sara' can upload regularly. Talked about 'tips for parents' and having blog showing on data projector morning or afternoon for parents to view and students to talk about with them.
Feelings from Friday
Loved both the Keynotes
Got a lot out of the Geocaching session (went to Greg's first then to the KP session on writing)
Susan:
Issues with her laptop re wireless - needs to see Shane
Looked at blogging from iPod.
Discussed Video options e.g. You tube and Vimeo
Looked over blog and shared Voki's
Greg:
Discussed conference and presentation - provided some feedback re 'confident and putting teachers at ease'
Discussed future technologies (Any research data re effect of technology on learners handwriting?)
Looked at Blog - set up 'Pages' - Numeracy, Voki
Paula role modeled how to move content from front page to new pages (e.g. voki's)
Lisa:
Discussed
conference and the session that Lisa and Anaru facilitated.
idevices and the part they play in Lisa's classroom program me.
Personal PD - What do I turn to for 'bang for bucks' for me personally - Twitter (and the power of establishing a strong connected Personal Learning Network (PLN).
Web 2.0 tools and the need to 'not put all your eggs in one basket'
Global blogging opportunities and introduced the 'pass it on' concept.
Molly: Discussed and reflected on
the conference and the session that Molly facilitated.
Set up school email on the iPad
Needs to do an update on both iTunes and the iPad software asap.
Discussed embed it in options (going to role model several at this afternoons staff meeting)
Looked at next Cluster Newsboard (Newsletter) that Lisa had compiled.
ICT Open Day: NO internet across the whole school for this event! Reassured all teachers that ICT 'is not the internet alone - don't panic!' just revert to 'plan B'- great to see teachers and students using digital cameras, active boards, flip video's, powerpoint for singing, story phones, teaching stations. Fabulous.
Mercia:
Discussed the conference and the sessions attended.
Spent time changing settings on class blog to enable parents to leave comments.
Changed the 'layout' of the blog to two columns so that the 'teaching and learning' space was later and clearer.
Discussed how to engage parents.
Added a Page views gadget so that the class can look at 'views' rather than just comments.
Lynda:
Discussed
the conference and workshop gems that were shared.
ways to make management easier for getting learners onto websites (e.g. Keyboardclimber)
issues re laptop sound etc (Paula to discuss with Nancy)
adding an icon onto the Smart Net log in page for Paula's Pages and Keyboard Climber (and perhaps other Junior websites) - do we need to see Shane or Molly for this? (Paula to ask Nancy)
Revisited how to edit and add to blog 'Pages'
Set up a 'Shortcuts' (weblinks) gadget on the classnlog and added the Keyboard climber website for easy further reference.
Jenny:
Discussed
Issue with Laptop
blog and past concerns (e.g. posting on Photopeach)
difference between 'compose' and 'HTML' and showed how to place HTML (e.g. the 'gobbledygook' from Photopeach) onto the central 'new post' area.
Looked at the 'Layout' of the blog and showed how you have 'control' over whatever has been placed as a gadget (moved the 'About us' to the top of the page).
Shari:
Discussed
Storyphones (How to get content on to them, How to convert files as the Storyphones only accepts Mp3)
Use of songs, fiction and non fiction books and information - variety and individualized e.g. Needs based
Using a buddy reading class through the story phones e.g. Big kids role modeling fluent reading.
Role Modelled use of Zamzar to not only convert files but to download You Tube clips directly to your computer for playing at your leisure.
types of files and their use e.g. for mobile devices.
